If you’ve just had a child, it can be extremely daunting. Going from a house of adults to having a small child to think about can be a worrying time, especially if you’ve never thought about childproofing your house before. Suddenly, every sharp corner becomes a threat, every plug socket is an opportunity for electrocution and the stairs become a minefield. The first thing to do is to make sure that all the gates to your house have bolts or latches out of reach of the child. As soon as your child is old enough to walk, it can be a nightmare keeping track of where they are. At least if they venture into the garden, you know they have to stay there if the gate is bolted up. If you have a low fence and gate in your front garden, opt for a more complicated fastening, such as a thumb latch.

To stop little fingers from finding their way into plug sockets, buy some plug guards. These are essentially fake plastic plugs which can’t easily be prised out by young hands. This also stops anything else from being pushed into the plug socket. The end of a spoon or a pen can easily find their way into a socket the moment your back is turned, so ease your mind with a way to protect your child.

If you have any sharp corners on any of your furniture, rather than buying expensive purpose-made furniture guards, a little bit of foam or bubblewrap stuck onto sharp edges can make a perfect, cheap substitute. If you use masking tape, it can easily be peeled off once your child is old enough with no lasting damage done to the furniture.

Rugs tend to be a bad idea with children, especially on polished surfaces such as tiles or wooden floors. This is because children love to run around but often don’t look where they’re going, and rugs create a major slipping hazard. If you simply have to keep your rugs, make sure they have a rubbery, anti-slip underside to minimise the rise of sliding over in the middle of a game.

You should always monitor your child closely when they go outside, even in your own garden.

Just by doing the simple steps I laid out below, you can achieve the kind of cleanness, orderliness and neatness you are longing for. Read them out and apply with your own twist and choice to achieve the kind of work place you have never seen before.

Label Your Tools Accordingly

Before putting your things and stuff in one place or at your storage spaces, better label them out first. Label them according to it’s usage (if you  got two scissors, label if one of them are for papers and the other one is used for other stuff, like for cloth or something like that). Either use wordings of your choice or color codes. Just make sure to use the label that makes your tool easily to identify even in a distance or so.

Categorize Them At Their Usage Frequency

If you got tools that you use daily, weekly, monthly or yearly in one tool cabinet or drawer, it’s much better to pull them out and segregate them according to its usage frequency. Place the things you use daily in a more reachable place and put away (store in other place) stuff you use in a monthly basis.

The above two are very basic tips but the effectiveness of them is tried and tested already. Just follow them out and I am quite sure you can achieve the workstation set-up you always want.

Blogging away from home.

I saw a pretty red love seat at a home depot inside SM Baguio. Fell in love with its design. I have been dreaming of a love seat for a while now. I knew it would be perfect in one corner in our living room. I mean to replace a wooden settee over that space and perhaps a soft love seat would add character and warmth into that space.

Unfortunately, the love seat was a price too heavy for me. $450 for a love seat is too superfluous for me. Wish I could find better deals the next time.
